Bolstered by a long list of A-plus record labels, artists and brands, Mike Angelo Torres began his foray into filmmaking as a true double-threat, acting as both director and director of photography on countless music videos and national commercial advertisements. Early in his career, Torres directed videos for Sony Music and Doghouse Records, as well as an emotionally charged public service announcement dealing with animal shelter over-population, securing him a highly coveted spot on the Revolution Pictures roster. Following this impressive debut, Mike had the great fortune of teaming up with notable Lions Gate director, Alejandro Monteverde (Bella, 2006) on several national commercials and PSAs. Those experiences then lead Torres into to the world of documentary filmmaking, and in 2007 he ventured out on a 51 city, worldwide tour filming the up-and-coming indie folk-rock band, Okkervil River. These travels took him to Greece, Italy, Spain, France, New Zeland, Australia and all across the United States and the resulting documentary, entitled “Lost Coastlines” will have its independent theatrical release in late 2008. Upon his return home, Mike wasted no time as he jumped right back into producing videos for both Guerilla Maab founding member, Trae, and platinum recording artist, Young Jock. Torres quickly followed those two projects with a video for European Hip-Hop artist, Dizzee Rascal’s hit single, “Old School,” which debuted at number seven on the European charts. Among many other big name acts, Mike has also directed music videos for Sony’s chart-topping artist, Lil’ Flip and the cyberworld’s poster girl, Tila Tequila. In between these projects, Mike collaborates as a director for Austin, Texas’ premier boutique production house, Rebel Creative. And even in his brief career, it’s no surprise Torres has received a great deal of praise and accolades, including Rolling Stone Magazine’s Editor’s Pick for his amazing video for break-out band, Riverboat Gamblers. Mike is truly a genius behind the lens and is well on his way to being one of America’s most sought after cinematographic talents in 2009.
Torres just began pre-production for his feature film directorial debut, which should begin production as early as summer 2009..
